INTRODUCTION

The aim of this report is to highlight the events of a four-day school trip organised by Gimnazija Jesenice that took place at CŠOD Gorenje, Pohorje. The article is written for younger students of Gimnazija Jesenice in order to motivate them and to get bonuses for nice and interesting trip with schoolmates.

REASON OF VISIT

Students were sent to Pohorje to learn new things and to experience different lessons. For example: how to survive in the forest, how to help each other in difficult situations, how to act when somebody is injured, how to set a fire, how to cook without traditional everyday ingredients and no supermarket nearby. The second reason was to explore natural surroundings of Pohorje. The school trip is a part of a school curriculum and, therefore, mandatory.

ORGANISATION

The trip lasted four days of the beginning of school year. The transport was organised from Jesenice to Pohorje and students had to provide covid test to get permission to board the bus.
The programme was well planned. Beside nature, there were many cultural elements added. The first stop was in the medieval town Celje – the city of the Counts. For more than half a millenium, the town has been marked by three yellow stars, the symbols of the Counts of Celje, the most powerful and ruler family who has ever lived in Slovenia. The students visited the old part of town, completely renovated in recent years. They took a walk to the old castle on the hill and enjoyed the view of the town. The sad part of the trip was visiting memorial park in Teharje, where 5.000 inhabitants of Slovenia were killed after 2nd world war. The first day of the trip was finished with dinner and accomodation in rooms.
The second day there were different gym games on the schedule. Students were also taught how to work with herbs. They learned how to gather them and use them in their lives. In the afternoon there were lessons on socializing outdoors in the playground.
The third day studeents built towers of spaghetti and bivouacs of wood and branches. In the evening a farewall dance was organised at the bonfire.
The last day was marked by the march to Rohla. Offering many trails, the Rogla Plateau is extremly suitable for hiking. Students enjoyed the fresh air and natural beautines.

SUGGESTIONS

I would suggest more trips like this one. The trip was too short but full of interesting activities. Maybe I would cancel the visit to Memorial park. The trip had many educational elements that provided a great learning experience.

COMMENTS

The trip was well-organised though it was a bit too short. It was great for students to have a lot of free time during all obligations that were part of the programme. The most important outcome is developed strong bonds.
